What’s Your Favorite Candy Bar?

*You can now purchase my candy bars and marshmallows at

That’s just one of the things that I’d like to know… so I put together a Candy Bar Survey. If you’d like to share your thoughts on all things candy bar-related, please take a few minutes to fill it out the survey below…

And please feel free to send the link on to any chocolate-centric people that you may be acquainted with.

Thank you!

And for the record, I favor Twix and Milky Way.

Have you ever tried Munchies? They’re sort of mini squares of twix-like English candy. I get them at Cost Plus. A high-end version of those would be awesome!

  2. Nina Says:

No, I’ve never heard of them, but I’m intrigued! There’s a Cost Plus a few blocks away from me…. I’ll try get to get one today.

  3. fattypr Says:

snickers is so much better than milky way.

  4. Nina Says:

Well… almost… I would rank Snickers third. Sometimes, I just don’t want to deal with the nuts. Milky Way, on the other hand, has malt and caramel — which are things that I never think about not wanting to deal with. ๐Ÿ™‚ And it’s so soft and creamy and melting…. without any peanuts to get in the way…

  5. Doug Cress Says:

    Take 5!!

  6. fattypr Says:

I actually feel bad that I forgot all about KitKats, but I really really like them, too. More than I like Snickers, actually, and even more than Cadbury’s Flake.

  7. Nina Says:

Doug – One day that pretzel stick recipe will find me… one day… ๐Ÿ™‚

fattypr – Yeah, Kit Kat’s a solid standby, but I would end up with it by default, rather than by enticement.

  8. Gary Says:

In the survey I said Frigor, but Kit Kat or Kรƒยคgi-fret is definitely a runner-up. Love good chocolate with a wafer crunch.

  9. Lida Says:

Forgot to mention in the survey Take 5 bars by Hershey. Also Ritter Sport’s Cornflake in Chocolate. And Snickers crunch. Really like the salty/sweet stuff!

  10. Nina Says:

Gary – Yeah, the elusive wafer. I haven’t figured out a way to make it at home for a candy bar, but I have a scheme for another sort of thin, crunchy layers that I’ll be trying out soon.

Lida – I have a whole range of salts from around the world that I want to try out to play around with the salty/sweet combinations even more. And since those salt crystals are so big, they’d add even more crunch.

And the Take 5 has more of a following that I realized… but now it makes sense to me, since it combines all of the most popular components! I have a search going for a crisp pretzel cracker recipe, or I may try for a substitution.

First, I love your blog. I have been visiting it since this fall and I have to thank you for letting me know Wild Flour Breads existed. I don’t know how I lived without their sticky buns and Egyptians before.

That said, I also completely forgot Take 5 in the survey (I was the one who kept coming back to Rose flavoring). Other candies I love, but can’t ever seem to find in the U.S. are Kit Kat Ball (as far as I can tell only available in France –sort of like Maltesers, but the textures and chocolate to malt ratio is different), and Cosmics by Milka, which are sort of like cornflakes in chocolate (so I wonder if the Ritter Sport corn flakes in chocolate mentioned above are similar). Cosmics also contain chocolate covered peanuts, but I can do without those.

I love Snickers for the peanut flavored nougat. I don’t particularly want the nuts themselves, but the flavor n the nougat really hits the spot. For some reason I can’t quite pinpoint, Milky way doesn’t really work for me even though it is nothing but delicious caramel and nougat. Perhaps it’s the lack of salt?

I really want to try your homemade Twix, so I hope you make these avaliable soon!

  12. Garrett Says:

kit-kats. oh god, kit kat bars. seriously, if anything turns my crank, it’s a kit-kat bar.

  13. Nina Says:

Julia – Thank you! I’m so glad that you’re enjoying Wild Flour Breads!!!! It’s such a special place. I went there a month before I left Napa and stocked up on their breads to freeze… so I was able to have it several times a week. ๐Ÿ™‚

I’m always thinking about ways to add crunch to my bars — so I bought some hard pretzels to try, since, as far as I can tell, they might be a major reason why the Take 5 has such a fan base? If they work, I’ll figure out how to make the pretzels myself. I’ll also experiment with corn flakes… but I’ll have to buy those. ๐Ÿ™‚

And I’m going to try to use rose flavoring as a component in a raspberry bar. I thought about adding lychee, too, and making a sort of Ispahan candy bar in tribute to Pierre Herme, but I’m not sure if there would be one too many strong flavors, since chocolate will also be involved… but I guess there’s only one way to find out. ๐Ÿ™‚ Hmmm… crystallized rose petals on top might be a nice way to add crunch and flavor…

And you’re right — one thing that I’ve found so far… salt makes everything better. The shortbread recipe that I’m using has a nice kick of salt. The only downside is that it makes you eat the bar so much faster! ๐Ÿ™‚

    Garrett – hehehe

  14. jamie Says:

potato chips.. (for crunch). I actually have a big island candies choclate bar — or maybe its just a block of chocolate covered potato chips that i brought back for you and CB from hawaii. I keep forgetting — hopefully i will see you guys before it goes bad — i have no idea how to store it properly.

japanese chocolates. i know a lot of ppl dont like them but they are some of my favorite chocolates of all time.

twix.. isnt as good anymore.. I had a twix the other day — what did they do to they cookie?? Its different now i was completely depressed. but ive always had a soft spot for reeces, kit kat and whatchamacallits… i recently bought 2 bags (yes 2) of peanut butter kisses… *sigh*

  15. Nina Says:

OOOH! I love potato chips and chocolate. ๐Ÿ™‚ I’m working on a bar right now that includes it. ๐Ÿ™‚

And I like Japanese gummies… Their flavor is better, and I like the softer texture. I got some agar agar to experiment with, so maybe I can make something like them.

I didn’t know that the Twix cookie changed!!?!?

Ah, peanut butter in chocolate… I’m trying to think of a new twist on it… but I also feel the need to make my own peanut butter… and I laugh when I think about my mini-prep food processor attempting it…. ๐Ÿ™‚
